Biography
Raymond Culos is a foremost chronicler of the social history of Vancouver's Italian community. It was a natural calling for this former management team member of The Vancouver Sun, The Province, Pacific Press and Southam Newspaper Group. His passion and penchant for the history of the community appeared to germinate through a type of familial osmosis. At an early age, he became cognizant of his parents' role as recognized leaders of the Sons of Italy Society and its affiliated women's lodge, Lega Femminile Italiana. Raymond's mother Phyllis served as president of the women's lodge for over 20 years. His father Marino distinguished himself as the first person to document the activities of Vancouver's Italian societies in his publication, Ricordi, Souvenirs of the Italian Colony of Vancouver (1935). Marino went on to serve as president of the Sons of Italy for a total of nine years.
Raymond Culos, has been a contributor to Italian Canadiana, Vancouver Lifestyles Magazine and Accenti Magazine. His active participation in the Italian community includes membership in the Italian Cultural Centre Society, Confratellanza Italo- Canadese, Famee Furlane and Civitanovese Society. In 2004, Ray did a bang up job of being the MC at the Confratellanza’s 100th anniversary banquet and was a major contributor to the success of the society’s 3-day museum exhibit at the Italian Cultural Centre.
