Italian Centre
The Italian Cultural Centre Society was founded in 1975 and inaugurated on September 25, 1977. Today the Italian Centre serves as a vital reference point for Vancouver's Italian-Canadian community. Also it is a stage for social and political activities in general, as well as a base and home to the various social, recreational and sporting activities of Italian Canadian Associations. It is a source of numerous initiatives geared towards the preservation, development and expression of Italian culture and language. It is located at 3075 Slocan Street in Vancouver East where fine dining can be experienced at Dario's La Piazza Ristorante Italiano.
The ICCS opened an Italian museum and archival centre in September 2008. Culos, a founding member of the museum committee, has been an integral voice in the planning process for this exciting and innovative project. Ray Culos, former chairman of the Museum and Archival Centre Committee, presently works with other members in developing iL Museo's collection. Il Museo comprises artifacts and memorabilia depicting the Italian experience in Vancouver and includes a few items of interest from Italians residing elsewhere in British Columbia.
